Something for today’s autumnal equinox and not only:-). It is a common knowledge that astronomy is inextricably linked to ancient mythology. We (the members of the “Our Mythical Childhood…” project) could enjoy a space odyssey in May this year, during a special session in The Heavens of Copernicus Planetarium (Copernicus Science Centre) in Warsaw, Poland (during the “Our Mythical Hope…” conference).

Our new finding – children’s lacing activity cards “Animals in the Stars” (authors: Dian G. Smith and Robie Rogge, Chronicle Books, 2014, age range: 3-5 years) are just related to the star constellations and to the mythological characters who are hidden in them.

The cards contain 10 constellations with the famous “star animals”. Children learn the shapes of the constellations by lacing the shoelace through the holes on the cards.
On the reverse side of the cards there is always some basic information about the given mythological character. The laces can glow in the dark!
